DJ CHUCK & WANJA present DIGITAL UNDAGROUND 4 and 5 (FREE DOWNLOADS)

WORDS FROM THE HERO

The Wonderful Wanja hit me up Somewhere after the 2nd Installment of her Mix Series w/ DJ CHUCK "DIGITAL UNDERGROUND" ....and no.....We arent Talking about SHOCK G.... No Humty Dance here, tho "All around the World is the Same Song" is such A Good Theme for this post being that That cats from all over the Globe came together on these dope mixes........(FUN FACT: TUPAC used to be A Backup Dancer for Digital Underground) hahaha not many people knew that, but being from TAMPA BAY I tend to be A Huge fan of D.U. or at least SHOCK G......

"UNDERGROUND AIRPLAY".... The name Ring A Bell?.. Well, for all those hiphop heads older than 25 whom actually were fanatic's of the culture doing the mid to late 90's, you will remember when Echo 1st started making shirts (before MARC EKCO changed the spelling and went mainstream) He used to sell the Dopest T-shirt Designs Ever and w/ Every purchase you received A dope HipHop Mixtape (CASSETTE) called "UNDERGROUND AIRPLAY" hahahaha but In these days, nothing is original which is not a bad thing, it is just the way it is. So i've learned to accept the fact the people on opposite sides of the Earth come up with the same great ideas Every second....which has absolutely nothing to do with this post or the mixtape other than the fact ..."Digital Underground" Reminded me of "Underground Airplay" just A common name hahahahaha I just have not thought about those ECHO mixtapes in a while and the name brought back some dope memories. Enough of Nostalgic moments down BoomBap memory lane tho, Lets get into the Reason I am not working on music at this very moment! =)

I've been hearing about Wanja for a pretty long time now via her show. "I still Love H.E.R. show" so it is A Honor to be a part of her and chucks movement. She has a wonderful heart, Amazing Taste and keeps great company (see the pictures at end of post) hahahah.

I ended up submitted 3 tracks for VOLUME 4. and in the spirit of Project: REACH, with doing so I submitted tracks I did with other Artist So not only am I getting out to more ears but those artist whom I love and Respect are getting out there as well....

The tracks I selected are 1.) "Blood Rush" which is Buff1 & myself . 2.) "I wont stop" which is Mishoo the Drumkit & myself produced by Comfort fit and last but not least 3.) "Love is complicated tommorow" which is St Mic, Unknown and Myself. which worked out really well cus it seems Wanja wanted to get St Mic involved anyways so.... All is good! ! ! ......

"
The fourth and fifth volumes of my mixtape series "Digital Undaground" are done. Due to a short hiatus that DJ Chuck went on we decided to bless you with 2 tapes, instead of one, to make up for the long waiting period. So we call this one the Independence day Edition, very fitting, since we are all about supporting independent Hip Hop.

We’re excited to let you hear both of the tapes for free. Look out for upcoming artists from all over the US and other countries, including features by the likes of Big Pooh, Chino XL, Dutchmassive, Roc C, Supastition, Baatin, OneBeLo, Elzhi, Buff1, Skyzoo, The Away Team and many more.

DJ CHUCK & WANJA

The idea for the "Digital Undaground" mixtape series came up in November 2007. Wanja, host of the I still love H.E.R. radio show, had been supporting talented unsigned artists, who she often came across on myspace.com, ever since she first started her radio show and so she was the right person to ask when DJ Chuck was looking for a partner to make "Digital Undaground" reality. "Digital Undaground" is a mix of different artists, who show their skillz over original beats. All these artists have been found on MySpace.com by the producers themselves.
If you ask them why they are doing this, they will tell you that to make a change in Hip Hop you need to get busy yourself, instead of complaining about its state! The purpose of thise mixtape series is giving talented, upcoming artists the exposure that the mainstream media wont give them, because they dont have big labels backing them up.
The primary goal was to have nothing but outstanding songs on "Digital Undaground", no half steppin allowed! And this has been done 100%.

Dj Chuck and Wanja are already keeping an ear out for the line up of Volume 6 and take your submissions at digitalundaground@gmail.com

NEW BUFF1 video "REAL APPEAL" feat. AB - produced by 14KT

WORDS FROM THE HERO

Peace, Man I am Glad I decided to take time away from music to do this HobbyshopHero site. I have so many people around me doing great things it would be an absolute shame not to have such a dope venue to share the things I do with my fanbase & Readers (what up Everyone!)

BUFF1 can not receive enough praise from me. The same goes for 14KT. I swear to (insert ? here) that these cats just cant go wrong. Buff has released 5 solo projects that I am aware of and thats on top of his work with the Almighty AML and There hasn't been one single song that I would consider "FILLER" or Skip (and those who know me know I got A Ichy Trigger Finger for that Fast Forward Button). Same goes for my man 14kt who's production is out of this world. (his Rhymes are super dope as well) When you hear A beat thats 14kt's it is impossible to not recognize. I was absolutely Blessed to have worked with him for one of my most personal tracks to this date "I WANT HER" from my sophomore LP "Crush Your System".
The 14kt produced / Dutchmassive Collaboration "I WANT HER" is now at this very moment among the TOP MOVERS in the magazine URB's NEXT 1000 contest thiny, GO VOTE if you like @t www.URB.com/Vote4Dutch
Needless to say it has been an absolutely breath taking year for the ATHLETIC MIC LEAGUE. Let me breakdown two personal situations I have had recently w/ A-SIDE WORLDWIDE'S catalog.
  • After never hearing anything from NOW ON (besides HAIRCUT'S amazing Instrumentals) I Finally got to listen to one of their tracks "The Willows" and was blown away. I then proceeded to listen to the Album "TOMMOROW ALREADY" and it has not left my Walkman for 2 months Strait. I mean, This is one really really dope album from start to finish. I feel like a fool for never taking the time to check out the music which made me realise how many dope albums I must be missing, and how many dope artists have no Idea how much they would love DUTCHMASSIVE due to A Lack of crossing Audible paths...(sigh)

CLICK HERE 2 purchase "Tommorow Already" via i-tunes

  • DJ HAIRCUT releases "Just aint Gonna work out" under the Alias MAYOR HAWTHORNE on STONES THROW - and I had no Idea until I had already been using the song as spiritual Aid copeing with a Break up. I had no Idea the Track I was listening to each morning and night was HAIRCUT's ALTER EGO and my man ASTRONOTE on the BEAT (I guess I had this remix for a long time) hahaha.

In Closing I am blessed to be surrounded by such talented and humble cats. I am so proud of Buff for taking the leap of blind faith by leaving his 9 to 5 & following his dream! Imagine if all the albums and songs you love never existed because the artist spent all his or her time working a dead end job and put music on the back burner. Be Sure to SUPPORT the music you Love by purchasing the albums. I dont care if you download ish for Free.... Once you do and you decide that you love that album. Go show that love and support and if you really cant afford the 10 dollars which is complete understandable in these times, then support by putting as many people as you can onto the album and get them to purchase it.

I wanna end this by saying next to "RAIN DANCE", "REAL APPEAL" is my favorite Track off of BUFF's Latest album. So Im glad they chose this for the next video!

I wanna say whatup to STEPHANIE! ESTES - "WHAT UP! STEPH LUVA!" and I wanna Say what up To my man Kendal! "WHAT UP! where's my Replacement Joint? I havent forgotten the loss of once hahaha" PEACE AND ENJOY THE VIDEO!

A Pipe Dream and a Promise
DROPS April 7th, 2009 on Interdependent Media.

http://www.audibletreats.com/Media/newspics/Finale00.jpg

A Pipe Dream and A Promise pulses with the evolving Detroit hip-hop sound; a multi-layered blend of hard-hitting beats, abstract electronic instrumentals, and illustrative lyrics that tell the personal story of a man’s journey in a city on the cusp of a simultaneous economic breakdown and musical resurgence. Featuring production from J Dilla, Black Milk, Flying Lotus, Notzz, and Oddisee, the album showcases the work of a variety of exceptionally talented producers, with each offering a different musical foundation for Finale to showcase his lyrical onslaught.

Speaking about the title of the album, Finale says, “That’s my definition of hip-hop. There are two sides to hip-hop or any dream that you follow. It starts as a dream that everyone says is a pipe dream. They deter you from your dreams. But as artists we promise ourselves we are going to follow our dreams.”

Before making his entrance into hip-hop, Finale worked as an automotive engineer promising to one day follow his dream of becoming a rapper. Making the rounds at local Detroit open mics and emcee battles, Finale began to mingle with local talents like Guilty Simpson and One.Be.Lo. After emailing some joints back and forth with J Dilla, Finale finally met him backstage at the DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival), where Dilla introduced him to Madlib, saying that he was one of the best in the game. “It was an honor and definitely a defining moment,” says Finale. After realizing his passion and talent for hip-hop, Finale decided to finally quit his day job, follow his true passion, and make music a full-time career.

WORDS FROM THE HERO....

WTF is a Hipster?!? Neo-Soul?!? BackPacker?!? Commercial?!? Battle-Rapper?!?!

"LABELS"

Music defined by the sound? The Lyrics, Beat?... or is it music defined by the style or brand of clothes you wear? Is it a Lifestyle.... From my understanding, Mickey Factz coined the Hipster phrase or at least made it spread more.
But the thing is, and I will make this perfectly Clear. I DONT CARE. PERIOD.
I would never Enjoy a persons music based on they're so called "Swagger" and I would never not like a persons music based on what they do or dont wear.
When Common was in his Mismatched - Badu -Thrift shop phase I thought he looked ....Well (if I dont have anything nice to say..) point is.....Electric Circus AMAZING.
A few months ago Buff & I were speaking on the phone about his new album, some 14Kt Beats, Finale, Rawkus, Pac DIV, U-N-I, And Street Wear......
but Jamal Bufford is not really a fan of the whole "Streetwear" phenomeom. However, I on the other hand Embrace it whole heartedly. Now Buff always was a Fly Gear rocking Rico Suave Super emcee.... Back when The AML crew was Rocking Sweats and Kicks.... =)
I love alot of the styles now, but I understand Buff and why he doesn't feel the Bright Colors, 80's retro, 90's throwback ish..... Is That Hipster?.... Hahaha. The one thing that Buff & I can point out, Pull out, and for the love of god, Do without...Is the Super tight pants on men. Haha
It's perfectly fine to wear normal pants that fit properly, but these skinny tight pants..... oh man... Im spending way to much time on this......
So I guess Everything I mentioned was Clothes when trying to depict "Hipster"... Does anyone know any particular Music traits of A so called "HIPSTER". Cus I dont.

Hipster (contemporary subculture)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the late 1990s and during the 2000s, the 1940s slang term hipster was used to describe young, urban middle class and upper class adults with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, independent rock, independent film, magazines like ViceClash and websites like Pitchfork Media, and organic, vegan, or locally-grown food.[1] In some contexts, hipsters are also referred to as scenesters.[2] and

http://www.neatorama.com/images/2005-10/hipster-bingo.jpg

It is difficult to give a precise definition of a hipster, because hipster culture is a "mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior[s]."[3] One commentator argues that "hipsterism fetishizes the authentic" elements of all of the "fringe movements of the postwar era—Beat, hippie, punk, even grunge," and draws on the "cultural stores of every unmelted ethnicity" and "gay style", and "regurgitates it with a winking inauthenticity" and a sense of irony
