WORDS FROM THE HERO

I have been having A really tough time posting this and being able to get the right words out, but they wont seem to come. I don't know how to say what everyone already knows. We lost an amazing Soul, A Musician, A son, A friend, A lover, A Inspiration, The loss of A person effects everyone different and so many people pass each day and not everyone gets media attention. From the biggest Stars to the most common of people, The nicest and kindest souls to the biggest jerks and Evil minds. The Idea of Someone never seeing the following Day is such A hard topic and stern reality. I will update this in the coming days with A Proper Hobbyshop Hero post, but for now if your not aware, Baatin of one of the greatest groups (Slum Village) passed on August 1st.

Here is some info from another site until I update this.

Leaf, I'm so sorry man.

Dutch

Co-founder of the Detroit trio Slum Village, Baatin has passed away. Baatin (Titus Glover) was found dead on the 14000 block of Anglin Street in Detroit. Detroit Police Department spokesman John Roach said Saturday he did not know a cause of death.

Slum Village was founded by Baatin, T3, and the late J Dilla. The original lineup of the group released two albums, 1997's Fan-tas-tic (Vol. 1) and 2000's Fantastic (Vol. 2).

Rapper/producer J Dilla left the group and was replaced by Elzhi for the groups third release, Trinity (Past, Present, and Future). After the release of Trinity Baatin began to exhibit unusual behavior prompting him to be removed from the group. Baatin was later diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Slum Village recorded two more albums without Baatin--2004's Detroit Deli and 2005's self titled CD. Founding SV member J Dilla requested that Baatin be invited back to the group to record a reunion album. J Dilla passed away in 2006 from Lupus complications, while T3 and Elzhi stayed true to their word and invited Baatin back into the fold.

The group had been performing on the summer's biggest Hip-Hop festival Rock the Bells in preperation for the September 22nd release of their album Villa Manifesto. Just two short weeks ago I spoke to Slum Village at the New York stop on the Rock the Bells tour and Baatin could not contain his excitement about being back with the crew.

"I'm happy to be back," Baatin said. "I just want to apologize for anyone that I hurt, but I'm glad to be back--I'm trying to do better, I'm trying."

"Baatin will be missed," Slum Village's T3 said in a statement. "I'm glad we got a chance to work together before he passed. We lost another Slum soldier, a dear friend and a brother. He touched many lives."

Baatin is survived by his son, Michael Majesty Ellis; his daughter, Aura Grace Glover; his parents, Howard and Alberta Glover, his sister, Eleanor Glover, and two brothers, Richard Riggins and Wendell Scott, all of Detroit.

To assist the family of Baatin visit: http://rensoul.com/2009/08/baatindonations.php

Baatin was an underrated MC with one of the dopest voices in rap history. His style was unique and his flow was original. He will be missed by the Hip-Hop community. R.I.P Baatin.

DJ CHUCK & WANJA present DIGITAL UNDAGROUND 4 and 5 (FREE DOWNLOADS)

WORDS FROM THE HERO

The Wonderful Wanja hit me up Somewhere after the 2nd Installment of her Mix Series w/ DJ CHUCK "DIGITAL UNDERGROUND" ....and no.....We arent Talking about SHOCK G.... No Humty Dance here, tho "All around the World is the Same Song" is such A Good Theme for this post being that That cats from all over the Globe came together on these dope mixes........(FUN FACT: TUPAC used to be A Backup Dancer for Digital Underground) hahaha not many people knew that, but being from TAMPA BAY I tend to be A Huge fan of D.U. or at least SHOCK G......

"UNDERGROUND AIRPLAY".... The name Ring A Bell?.. Well, for all those hiphop heads older than 25 whom actually were fanatic's of the culture doing the mid to late 90's, you will remember when Echo 1st started making shirts (before MARC EKCO changed the spelling and went mainstream) He used to sell the Dopest T-shirt Designs Ever and w/ Every purchase you received A dope HipHop Mixtape (CASSETTE) called "UNDERGROUND AIRPLAY" hahahaha but In these days, nothing is original which is not a bad thing, it is just the way it is. So i've learned to accept the fact the people on opposite sides of the Earth come up with the same great ideas Every second....which has absolutely nothing to do with this post or the mixtape other than the fact ..."Digital Underground" Reminded me of "Underground Airplay" just A common name hahahahaha I just have not thought about those ECHO mixtapes in a while and the name brought back some dope memories. Enough of Nostalgic moments down BoomBap memory lane tho, Lets get into the Reason I am not working on music at this very moment! =)

I've been hearing about Wanja for a pretty long time now via her show. "I still Love H.E.R. show" so it is A Honor to be a part of her and chucks movement. She has a wonderful heart, Amazing Taste and keeps great company (see the pictures at end of post) hahahah.

I ended up submitted 3 tracks for VOLUME 4. and in the spirit of Project: REACH, with doing so I submitted tracks I did with other Artist So not only am I getting out to more ears but those artist whom I love and Respect are getting out there as well....

The tracks I selected are 1.) "Blood Rush" which is Buff1 & myself . 2.) "I wont stop" which is Mishoo the Drumkit & myself produced by Comfort fit and last but not least 3.) "Love is complicated tommorow" which is St Mic, Unknown and Myself. which worked out really well cus it seems Wanja wanted to get St Mic involved anyways so.... All is good! ! ! ......

"
The fourth and fifth volumes of my mixtape series "Digital Undaground" are done. Due to a short hiatus that DJ Chuck went on we decided to bless you with 2 tapes, instead of one, to make up for the long waiting period. So we call this one the Independence day Edition, very fitting, since we are all about supporting independent Hip Hop.

We’re excited to let you hear both of the tapes for free. Look out for upcoming artists from all over the US and other countries, including features by the likes of Big Pooh, Chino XL, Dutchmassive, Roc C, Supastition, Baatin, OneBeLo, Elzhi, Buff1, Skyzoo, The Away Team and many more.

DJ CHUCK & WANJA

The idea for the "Digital Undaground" mixtape series came up in November 2007. Wanja, host of the I still love H.E.R. radio show, had been supporting talented unsigned artists, who she often came across on myspace.com, ever since she first started her radio show and so she was the right person to ask when DJ Chuck was looking for a partner to make "Digital Undaground" reality. "Digital Undaground" is a mix of different artists, who show their skillz over original beats. All these artists have been found on MySpace.com by the producers themselves.
If you ask them why they are doing this, they will tell you that to make a change in Hip Hop you need to get busy yourself, instead of complaining about its state! The purpose of thise mixtape series is giving talented, upcoming artists the exposure that the mainstream media wont give them, because they dont have big labels backing them up.
The primary goal was to have nothing but outstanding songs on "Digital Undaground", no half steppin allowed! And this has been done 100%.

Dj Chuck and Wanja are already keeping an ear out for the line up of Volume 6 and take your submissions at digitalundaground@gmail.com

J-Ramm / Kolon Productions / Nutsons / Clark F - PRODUCED IN NORWAY (feat - Frank N Dank, illa J, Leaf Erikson, Baatin, Shawn Jackson, etc)

This is the first release in the "Produced in Norway" series on Plastic Strip Press, a new series showcasing talent from the Norwegian music scene on quality vinyl and digipack CD format.

J-RAMM // KOLON PRODUCTIONS // NUTSONS // CLARK F

LISTEN to the OFFICIAL SNIPPETS!

This release features four different up and coming producers from the Norwegian hip-hop scene

  • J-Ramm (Jørgen Ramm)
  • Kolon Productions (Intact & FLG /Erik Norderval og Joakim Martinussen)
  • Nutsons (Erlend & Haakon Mjømen Knudsen)
  • Clark F (Marius Haugan)

They all have in common (with Nutsons as an exception) that they are part of a new generation of Norwegian beat producers that has grown up on the music of Jay Dee & Madlib and the sound from Detroit and Los Angeles - compared to the earlier beat makers in Norway, more influenced by New York producers like DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Large Professor.

Many of the producers have worked tightly with foreign artists, either living abroad or hooking up through MySpace and this album showcases some of the collaborations with American, Swedish and English names such as Frank N Dank, Baatin (of Slum Village) Shawn Jackson, Leaf Erikson, Johnny 5, Organism 12 Niamh Mc Cartney and Illa J.
Also some of the best Norwegian rap acts are featured such as Loys Doy, Onkl P & Jaa9, Budbringer, Follo Pluss, RSP, Freakshow and Toby Tones.

About the Produced in Norway series: For the last years the number of releases of quality Norwegian hip-hop and experimental music on CD and vinyl has declined, even though there are more talented rappers and producers than ever before. Digital technology has allowed new artists to merely MP3 their tracks, after they are removed from the MySpace playlist, most of the music disappears. The Produced in Norway series tries to document the vast landscape of music laying on dusty harddisks all around the country.

Go to www.plasticstrip.no for more info, soundclips, coverart and how to get this release.

WORDS FROM THE HERO
You have Absolutely no IDEA how exciting this is for me and how proud I am to be able to finally post this project up! Tho the project is kinda like A double edge sword for me, my love for my friends and fam completely out weights my desire for exclusive rights or being the 1st to release something. It all started back in 2005 when my good friend and Fam LEAF ERIKSON (DETROIT heavyweight) put me onto my current favorite beatmaker of all time .....
INTACT! of (KOLON PRODUCTIONS)...

I met Intact during the time I was starting to record DISC 2 of the highly anticipated (never released) album MUSIC 2 SLEEP TO. I was lucky enough to get about 7 tracks from Intact which are doper than your favorite Producers best Battle Beats. Among those tracks is the 1st single off the RE:release of Crush Your System - "THOUGHT" produced by INTACT b/w "Shuffle Step" (feat. Buff1 & Finale) produced by Samiyam which will be released as a Limited Edition Seven Inch.
Now, between the time we met and now, There were a few Roadblocks and changes made (1 of them being the Rawkus 50 project which derailed my plans for Music 2 Sleep To disc 2) I later Recorded an Album with ALL INTACT Production and Titled it QUIT WORK MAKE MUSIC and then as Im sure most of you know.... my Macbook Crashed and I lost everything I had done the past 2 and a half years. What people do not know about the situation is by loosing my MACBOOK I also lost all of the stuff I had on my external Hard drive which was bounced to the macbook the 2 or 3 months before the Crash during my attempt to remove Windows Parrallels and Install Logic Studio Pro (LONG STORY).......

To make a long story short, Domination Recordings is re:RELEASING a REVAMPED version of my Rawkus release "CRUSH YOUR SYSTEM" which will feature the Single mentioned above plus a few other Bangers I have managed to keep from everyones ears and inboxes (which is hard being I Love to share my music as I make it). On top of CRUSH YOUR SYSTEM (The Physical Version) I will be releasing my new (major) album in the FALL which will feature 7 joints from INTACT that will make heads explode!!!! of those, will include "THOUGHT" (version 2 featuring LEAF ERIKSON) & "GROW" (version 2 featuring LEAF ERIKSON, BAATIN & WILL WIDDOSS) - The album will also feature production from DAVID LUKE, SOTU the TRAVELER, KOEN of BLOCNOTES, IllMIND, SAMIYAM, M-phazes, CROUP, MARVELOUS & ASTRONOTE + more. Only thing that is not for Certain yet is if this release will be titled "QUIT WORK MAKE MUSIC" or "THE NEXT FINAL FANTASY" either way it is my best work to date and my most personal and precious work, Ive been working on this project since 2004 and have Held off on releasing it for a number of releases (which I know producers hate) but I played my cards smart and I will win with the hand I have in the end thanks to my and everyone I worked with's patience.....

So it is A wonderful feeling that INTACT and FLG along with so many more Talented Producers are Finally about to get some shine!!!!! so Go ahead and check the snippets in the YOUTUBE video Below and Check all the myspace LINKS and purchase this ALBUM!!!!!! it is AMAZING
