IF YOU THINK OF THE "D" Detroit, or Michigan in General, most people think of MOTOWN, MotorCity, Eminem, D12, The Next Tier of people would probably mention Slum Village, House Shoes, J Dilla, Proof, If your lucky you'll get a few people that would mention Dwele, Guilty Simpson, Phat cat, etc... But MICHIGAN is much more than the few names I mentioned and "The D" isnt the only place breeding Classic Musicians......Welcome to ANN ARBOR (small city BIG NAME)
If you've been following "Underground" hip hop since the late 90's you should remember the Basketball, Sweatsuit and kicks wearing super group "The Athletic Mic League" - They released a gang of albums and Ep's, probably the most critically acclaimed being "JungleGymJungle" on Baraak Records
The Crew was full of Amazing emcee's, more than 3 Great Producers & Dj's, but listening to all these albums there was this one emcee who always caught my ear "Buff 1". So 2005 comes along and I hunt for this superemcee and build a really good friendship. At the Same Time Buff 1 and his group all agreed that Buff would take the solo route for a while. In no way did they split up, they just decided that Buff 1 was the right man to carry the torch for the crew. and man were they right. From 2005 till now, Buff 1 has recorded and released 3 mixtapes, and is now on his 2nd full length solo album "There's only one".
Buff and I (Dutchmassive) have recorded a few songs together so far. The 1st was "Blood rush" which is on his mixtape "Small City, Big Name" & my album I released for the Rawkus 50 "Crush Your System"
Buff1 & Finale will be on my new single "Shuffle Step" - Produced by SAMIYAM. (Another great talent out of Ann Arbor whom has since moved to LA and is working with Flying Lotus and many other newage Super producers).
Buff1 is also on the Better Man (remix) - Produced by M-phazes that will be apearing on my Music 2 Sleep To album in late 08/early 09
